Интересно Ланс, браво, това явно е доработка или направо си е нов модел на Торнадо М10, за което Георги Чорбаджийски (един от шефовете на Линукс Сълюшънс, фирмата разработила VOD портала на Амотера) ... беше казал че са голяма пръчка ... дано този модел е подобрен ...  :?

Три часа търсих някакъв програмируем работещ set top box, на който черно на бяло да са му написани възможностите, освен изреждането на стандарти (които повечето се поддържат, да не ви говоря).

Повръща ми се от leading ненам си кво, one of kind еди-кво-си, сульовци дето били the-one-and-only и други такива, на които middleware-то им било най-най ама няма описание на функционалности или поне картинка. Едни пък чак бяха написали, че те били championed еди каква си технология, дето според мен и маймуна може да я разработи с 2 минути мислене и два часа писане.

Fuck marketing speak, как успяват с подобни изписани глупости да продадат каквото и да е, не мога разбера. Толкова и продават де. Според анализаторите (ако може да им се вярва) през 2010 година пазарът на IPTV STB щял да бъде 19 милиона устройства worldwide. Само толкова ли? Че това е капка в морето. Никак не е чудно при предлаганите бозилища в момента, че очакват едва толкова да се продават.

    Ами с удоволствие бих ти дал един два креатела за чупене. Може и да не ти харесват, но винаги имам няколко под ръка. Datasheet-ове не обяснявам и не разказвам, имам документация, която мога да ти предоставя.

    Аз имам в офиса, SPL, Торнадо М10 и още някаква друга пръчка на Hauppage. Само SPL-а става за нещо и то защото обикновено PC. За момента SPL-а с малко хакерия си работи екстра, но е много скъп

Бях тръгнал да пиша дълго писания защо Tornado M10 е пълна пръчка и защо купувайки си подобно устройство си го слагате твърд отзад, но ми писна и в крайна сметка ето направо важната част:

- Устройството е боза, поддържа единствено mpeg4 part 2, едва свири mp3 (от пет файла, един тръгна) и като цяло не става за нищо

- Устройството едва, едва поддържа 640x480

- При цена от 150 лв. (скъпо), тукашните му "дилъри" искат да го продават за около 300 лв. За толкова пари по-добре си купете компютър вместо тая смотана пишка.

- Местните дилъри са небезизвестната фирма Амотера, която всички добре помним с какво е свързана. Не, не са поумнели от преди.

- В заключение ако някой ви предлага услуга с подобно устройство и без пари да ви го дава, бягайте далече.

Торнадо М10 сам по себе си представлява телефонна централа от нов клас PBX/Centrex. Той може да бъде настройван и конфигуриран от страна на клиента посредством нашата уеб страница, посредством самото телефонно устройство или посредством дистанционно управление.

Торнадо M10 дава на потребителите си възможността да бъдат мобилни. Той е мултифункционално IP телефонно устройство, което работи на базата на технологията VoIP. Торнадо М10 поддържа видео камера, която позволява препращане на видео образи между абонатите. Устройството може да бъде свързано с телевизионното устройство и да показва образи директно на телевизионния дисплей.

Торнадо М10 може да предава видео данни през видео - телефонна връзка. Освен това устройството може да бъде използвано да се водят видео - телефонна комуникация между потребители, които ползват съвместими устройства.

Торнадо М10 освен телефонно устройство представлява и високофункционален медия адаптер, чрез който се осъществява преноса и преобразуването на данни от цифровата мрежа до крайното устройство на клиента. Предлаганото от нас телефонно устройство от нов клас предлага многобройни интерфейси за приспособяване към различни видове крайни устройства (в момента продуктът поддържа Гласов – FXS и FXO, Видео, и Безжичен интерфейс). По този начин той може да бъде използван за доставка на всякакъв вид пакети от информация до крайни потребител - данни, глас и видео. При получаването на данните адаптерът Торнадо М10 ги конвертира в данни, глас или видео, след което ги доставя на крайното устройство, свързано с него.

Най–често използваните конфигурации на Торнадо М10 в качеството му на високофункционален медия адаптер, свързващ цифровата мрежа на НОВО ЕООД с крайното устройство на клиента – персонален компютър, телевизионно и видео устройство, аудио система, система за домашно развлечение.

Торнадо М10 може да послужи и като връзка между SD картата на притежавания от клиента дигитален фотоапарат и телевизионното устройство, позволяващ му по този начин да разглежда записаните данни на картата върху телевизионния дисплей.

Pace Micro Technology is known moreso for their set-top box development moreso than their forays into PVP-land, and happily so for they're putting out what looks like the world's first H.264-based hardware set-top box, the IP215. You know H.264 — the codec to end all codecs, the one that Apple is betting will usher in the year of HD. Offloading all of the nasty decoding work to the hardware box frees up a lot of processing power hogged up by software-based solutions, making this unit a rather interesting device in the field of IPTV. Pace is even saying this box could come in at the sub-$100 price level, which would make it attractive to telcos and operators looking to make the convergence leap to broadband TV/HDTV. Linux IPTV STB gains Web-to-TV browser

i3 Micro Technology has announced the third generation of its embedded Linux based set-top box (STB). The new i3 "Mood Box" will ship in September with a new Texas Instruments DSP, and the capability to load CODECs on the fly.

According to i3, the new Mood Box will support on-the-fly CODEC loading, to help operators optimize cost, quality, and bandwidth for different geographic regions. Supported file formats include Windows Media Audio series 9, MP3, MPEG2, MPEG4, MPEG4-AVC (H.264), and MPEG2 HD.

The Mood Box targets live IP-based TV, video-on-demand, pay-per-view, music-on-demand, Internet browsing, email, and other interactive services and 'infotainment' applications. It can be used with i3's streaming server products for IP TV and video-on-demand, or standalone with various third-party products and services. We covered a previous rendition in a detailed.

The new, third-generation i3 Mood Box will be based on TI's TMS320DM642 DSP-based programmable digital media processor. TI's DM64x series are powerful enough to run Linux all by themselves, but the i3 design uses the DSP as a coprocessor to an unspecified RISC processor.

i3 says the forthcoming Mood Box will use a 2.4 series Linux kernel.

i3 micro technology (Stockholm, Sweden) introduced the Mood Box at the CeBIT conference (Hannover, Germany) in March 2002. The device is a stylish 'next-generation set-top box' that is intended to fit the decor of homes, upscale hotels, and commercial settings -- delivering IP-based live TV, video-on-demand, pay-per-view, music-on-demand, Internet browsing, email, and other interactive services and 'infotainment' applications to users' TV sets.

Based on a Linux-based operating system and open multimedia standards, the Mood Box can be used as part of an i3-provided total 'Mood solution' which includes the set-top box along with streaming servers (for IP TV and video-on-demand) plus systems management servers. Alternatively, the device is available as a standalone component for use with various 3rd-party products and services.

Inside the Mood Box

The Mood Box is designed for noiseless (fanless) operation, and contains an embedded computer based on a National Semiconductor SC1200 (x86 compatible) system-on-chip processor equipped with 64MB of system memory and 2MB of built-in Flash ROM (from which the system boots).

Linux inside

According to Chris Chalkitis, i3 General Manager for Streaming Products, the Mood Box's embedded operating system is based on a version of the Linux kernel 2.4.x which was derived by i3 micro from downloaded kernel.org sources.

Display functions are provided by Opera's embedded Linux (version 6.0) browser, which uses Qt/Embedded to write directly to the Linux framebuffer.

"All display (user interface) is presented through a browser window -- hence all graphics and text are HTML based," said Chalkitis.

According to Chalkitis, some of the system's other interesting Linux software components are a micro-webserver (which hosts HTML code for use by a variety of onboard applications and daemons), remote (network) updating mechanisms, and MPEG demux/player software (with real-time AES decrypt).

One of the toughest challenges during development of the Mood Box was "the difficulty of working with highly integrated and complex chips, which at an early state lacked sufficient documentation and driver support," recalled Chalkitis.

Why Linux?

"We chose Linux to control our own destiny, and to be in control of the source," Chalkitis said. "Also, the vast amount of tool-sets available has shortened the development cycle."

"We will be posting any significant changes done to any GPL source code as soon as they are ready to be released," he added. "Giving back to the community is very important; we will also release parts of our own source under GPL or similar licenses."

How does i3 micro feel about the future of Linux in embedded systems and devices? "Linux will be a winner in the embedded market, and other commercial operating system vendors will struggle and only be successful in niche markets," predicted Chalkitis.

Availability

i3 partners with systems integrators, OEMs, and VARs to deliver IP TV, IP video, and IP telephony systems to hospitality, telecom, cable, and broadband operators. The products are sold directly by i3 as well as through its partners and resellers.

The Mood Box's internal embedded computer is also available on a board-level basis to OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) who wish to build unique or customized set-top box products.

UK-based Internet protocol (IP) set-top-box (STB) maker Amino announced that it uses Espial's Suite for TV in its range of Linux-based AmiNed STBs, including the incredibly small AmiNet100, a device smaller than its own remote control (pictured at left). Espial's software improves the "HTML-on-TV" experience, and sped up AmiNed device development times, according to Amino.
Amino says its AmniNet STBs are intended for use in the consumer market, as well as in networked digital video systems found in hotels, schools, and hospitals. AmiNet supports both "walled-garden content" or full Web access, according to Amino. AmiNet STBs provide accurate rendering of Web content on televisions, and enable user interaction through a TV remote control, according to Amino.

IP (Internet Protocol) video deployments are growing rapidly in North America, Europe, and Asia, according to Amino. More than 17 million consumers worldwide subscribed to DSL last year. More than nine million DSL subscribers are predicted in Japan this year, increasing from five million last year. Telcos are commercially deploying video over IP via DSL today, as cable operators launch competing telephone services.

Amino offers six models in its AmiNet line, but all include Ethernet, a 350MIPS system processor, and full MPEG 2 demux and decode functionality, according to Amino. The devices all run Linux, along with various other open source software packages. Amino sells its AmiNet devices as finished products, but also licenses and customizes the AmiNet designs.
